AIRBRUSH PILES OF SKULLS

DIGITAL STENCIL |
|
| |
This skull design was used for
importing into a photo/airbrushing
program such as Photoshop, or
Photopaint. The ‘enclosed outlines’
help with digital masking, such as using
the “magic wand” tool.

OUTLINED FILLED |

These outlined skulls are great for computer
program graphics. Such as color fills, or
digital painting with a removable contour. |

VINYL ‘SHIELD’ STENCIL |
|
|
This is a ‘one piece’ skull design that works great as a hand held shield for airbrushing. Once the holes are ‘weeded’ out, the vinyl can be used to laydown skull shapes as stencils, or stickers.
In this example, the vinyl was lightly
used for the shape, and details for
filling in with a paintbrush, and airbrush. As, a hand held shield, it
maintained all the edges without
cutting any masks onto the paint surface.
In this example, the negative, and the positive sides of the vinyl cutouts are used as ‘loose’ shields.
To keep the vinyl from sticking ‘too hard’ to the surface, I dust a little paint onto the sticky side. This turns the vinyl into a ‘low tack’ surface, so it can be relocated multiple times without warping.

PAPER STENCIL |
|
| |
A tribal flame was added to this skull
design, and sectioned for two pieces
of printer paper. |
|
| |
If you don’t have a vinyl cutter to
plot out a mask, you can easily
print the vector onto paper, and
hand cut it. This image was taped
together with two 81/2 x 11 pages,
and the outline was loosely sprayed
over the paper onto the transfer paper
applied to the tank. Then carefully
cut out with an x-acto blade. Now,
the paint can take place inside the
exposed area. By flipping over the
stencil, the other side can be easily
painted to match. |

COMPLEX LAYERS |
|
| |
11 skulls shapes are chosen and placed to fill
the desired area. Using some computer graphic
skills, the images were cut out as a one piece
mask, and single mask for each head so there
was an outline shield for all the features. After
the black background is sprayed on, the skulls
were painted one at a time with their positive-
hand-held sheilds. |

|

|
| |
The paint was applied by airbrush, and
paintbrush one at a time with Urethane paint on
aluminum sign sheet. |
 |
 |
| |
These skulls were painted by mostly retaining
the original file design. That way, they serve
another purpose, allowing you to ‘add’ more
character to them, by reshaping the eye sockets,
adding eyeballs, tounges teeth and jaw
reshaping, or bone structure addons. |
